Plugin for drawing from a configuration file

Hello,
I am sharing this SketchUp plugin, which I developed for my own needs.

It can be found on Github at(Releases · marco402/plugin-squetchup-ruby · GitHub)

It allows you to draw canopies or other assemblies in SketchUp based on a configuration file.

Menu items (found under the SketchUp Extensions menu)
Generate framework from file
Generate roofing
Generate A4 plan (3 or 4 views)
Export A4 plan (JPG)

Hello

Here is an example of a simple canopy:

The following configuration file allows it to be generated:

dimensions in mm
#If Mat does not exist, the color will be red.

post;70;20;2400;0;3000 # Front left
SECTION_POST = 70
HEIGHT_POST = 1940
POST;SECTION_POST;SECTION_POST;HEIGHT_POST;SECTION_POST/2;SECTION_POST/2;0;id;MAT=woodAuvent post left base northeast corner at 0,0,0
POST;SECTION_POST;SECTION_POST;HEIGHT_POST;SECTION_POST+1750+SECTION_POST/2;SECTION_POST/2;0;id;MAT=woodAuvent post right

#BEAM;sectionY;sectionZ;x1;y1;z1;x2;LENGTH;y2;z2;MAT=xxx
SECTION_BEAM = 70
START_BEAM = -320
LENGTH_BEAM = 3890 #The START_BEAM will be added to this LENGTH.
LENGTH_BEAM_REELLE = 3890-START_BEAM
BEAM;SECTION_BEAM;SECTION_BEAM;START_BEAM;SECTION_BEAM/2;HEIGHT_POST+SECTION_BEAM/2;LENGTH_BEAM;SECTION_BEAM/2;HEIGHT_POST+SECTION_BEAM/2;id;MAT=woodAuvent front beam mounted on the 2 posts
BEAM;30;SECTION_BEAM;START_BEAM;SECTION_BEAM/2+1320;HEIGHT_POST+SECTION_BEAM/2+436;LENGTH_BEAM;SECTION_BEAM/2+1320;HEIGHT_POST+SECTION_BEAM/2+436;id;MAT=woodAuvent

#RAFTER;number;section_x;section_y;exceeding;materiel
SECTION_RAFTER_X = 35
SECTION_RAFTER_Y = 70
EXCEEDING=70
RAFTER;7;SECTION_RAFTER_X;SECTION_RAFTER_Y;EXCEEDING;id;MAT=woodAuvent #RAFTER left

#BATTEN
number_BATTEN = 3
SECTION_BATTEN_X = 27
SECTION_BATTEN_Y = 27
BATTEN;number_BATTEN;SECTION_BATTEN_X;SECTION_BATTEN_Y;id;MAT=woodAuvent

#FASCIA;sectionX;sectionY;MAT=
FASCIA;25; 200;id;MAT=woodAuvent

#GUTTER;diameter;MAT=
GUTTER;100;id;MAT=GUTTER

To draw it, after installing the canopy.rbz plugin:

1- menu “Generate framing from file” then load “english\configuration file template\North_canopy.txt”

2-1-1 You can generate a 2D outline: menu "Generate A4 drawing (3 or 4 views)"
2-1-2 You can add dimensions.
2-1-3 You can export the dimensioned drawing as a .jpg file: menu "Export A4 plan (JPG)".

2-2 You can add one of 5 types of roofing: menu “Generate roof covering”

Note: Depending on the machine, the type of roofing, and the roof surface area, the treatment may take a long time.

-Transparent Onduline

-Polycarbonate

-Red fiber-cement

-Roman tiles

-Decorative canal tiles

Finally, you can display the list of hardware in the Ruby console:

Good job

Marco

I am not fond of the idea of inventing yet another geometric definition file format.

Where can these various existing formats be found ?

Do a web search on DAE (Collada), DXF, OBJ, PLY, STEP, STL, etc.

I’ve created something like this for authoring and maintaining dynamic components. Discussion in this thread:

I feel that it’s useful not as an extra format for defining geometry, but for defining parametric systems.
