Placemaker Terrain import

Hello,

I’m having problems with importing Terrain in another similar program by Placemaker Mindsight Studios, which allows for importing Terrain, landscape, buildings, water. in to Sketchup Models. The Terrain after imported shows in a Plain White surface, after using the geo-located tool for a specific chosen location. The Terrain imported in to sketchup should show a dark green tone, with outlines on the rest of the terrain of roads and names identifying different town districts. But it only imports as a blank white surface. There are contours of the white surface, matching the location elevation. I’ve computer updated everything with the placemaker and Sketchup, so the plain white terrain imported doesn’t make sense. thanks

Have you tried contacting their support team?

Yes, and they provided helpful responses, but since they updated the program with a lot of changes there are interruptions in my workflow after the transition from old version to new version of their software. Are there any other Extensions or programs in the market similar to Placemaker Mindsight Studios that Import Terrain, Buildings, Trees, Roads, Paths, and waterways, based on city location data?

Our native Add location includes terrain and buildings - CAD Mapper includes roads and waterways. I am not aware of one that includes trees.

I spent a few hours today trying to get up to speed with Placemaker v4. The data varies a lot from place to place. In the past I’ve found the terrain to be not that great for my scale of work, but the aerial imagery to be excellent. I prefer where ever possible to use a surveyor’s contours, but then projecting tiled images onto those terrain models proved difficult and tedious. It might be easier now with “Set Target Terrain,” but I haven’t tried that as yet.

topoexport, depends on your area and the data available.
they’ll export 3ds and ifc (at a small cost), and if there are official public data, they are taken into account. here in france with the lidar scans it’s a goldmine.

Did a few tests, it’s really detailed, needs some cleanup (like any IFC), quite cheap (18-20 € for a 900x900m area ? still, considering the level of context…)

their demo files are not up to date in regard to the new stuff they recently added (vegetation and al)

this is where I live. 900x900 for 18€
as it’s an IFC, there are things that need to be made better, trees are groups, roofs and walls are separate and on different tags.
it’s 10m lines and 5m faces, and because of the lack of components, it lags a bit.

then again, do you need a 1km2 area ? and if you do, you can replace / clean stuff up.
