Pipeline Constructability Demonstration in an Urban Road - Recommendation - Is Sketchup Right

Hi Sketchup People, I am an engineer that is looking to demonstrate to clients the constructability of pipelines in urban road environments. Im looking to show a step by step simulation of the build process with the plant and equipment. Im therefore looking for the best package that can show this.

  1. Import a road (Either by photo, Point cloud, or Google Earth)
  2. Import the specific plant and equipment, traffic barriers etc and place it on the road
  3. Show the excavation and installation
  4. Restoration
  5. Have a section view

Sketchup looks like the right package with some plug ins - does anyone have experience with this - is there a better package? Thanks Dave

Desktop version of SketchUp (+extensions).

Lot of options, but it depends on what software you know how to use or want to learn how to use.

I’ve recently trained people who do a similar job in south of france. it suited them.

is it a right tool ? yes.
is it THE right tool ? idk, many tools out there :slight_smile:

very fast learning curve, lots of pre-made models for your surroundings, now compatible with point clouds and gaussian splats (on PC), a good mix of terrain tools + solid tools to excavate stuff, yeah, I’d say it can do the job.
