PDF Import Quality (PNG Export)

Forgive me for asking a question regarding image quality on pdf’s brought in from PNG. In an old post Colin says to open the PDF in “Preview” and export at 300dpi for more quality and Im stumbling with this. I have Bluebeam, Acrobat Pro, and I am not finding any way to export at a given DPI setting. I typically dont need a ton of detail with PDF imports so I just use Windows Snipping Tool to do a screen capture then bring the PNG into Sketchup but of course the import is extremely blurry.

I have a job that would benefit from a cleaner import (mainly to read fine text that is illegible with the work flow above).

Any input is appreciated.

Instead of the Snipping Tool for screen capture I use a freeware application called Screen Captor. It allows the user to specify the resolution of the captured PNG image. This is a screen capture from a PDF.

And this is what it looks like in SketchUp.

Of course it helps to enlarge the PDF as much as possible before making the screenshot.

If the PDF contains vector linework I will sometimes use Inkscape to create a dxf from the PDF which can then be imported into SU instead.

Thanks Dave,

Ive done the inkscape option in the past especially to cull out as much un-needed vector linework as possible. I will give Screen Captor a shot. Much of what I am importing are very large site plans (stadiums, project site work, etc.) I will often bring in smaller elements as separate Sketchup sessions. Fingers crossed
