Overhead object visibility on plans

Hi all,

I am yet again trying to establish the best way to show overhead items on my floor plans in layout.
what do you all do to shown things like roof outlines or structural beams on floor plans?
For this project I am using a sketchup scene in wireframe overlaying a floor plan, then adjusting the Tag styles in LO. however using wireframe shows the additional lines of the H beam where I would like to just have 2 lines per beam like the second image… issue with the second image is if I can furniture under the beams there is a white fill over the furniture.

I’m keen to hear what other are doing in these situations

Many thanks

Do you want to see the furniture under the beams?

I use Wireframe with a dash style for the tag when I want to show hidden features. In the case of your beams, I might just use Hidden Line with Vector rendering unless I was going to have the beams mask furniture below in which case I would use Hidden Line and Hybrid rendering.

Thanks for the response Dave, I wanted to see the dashed line over the furniture which I didnt know worked by changing the scene to vector until reading your comment.
I have a few other issues like showing showing bulkhead lines, but for now I have left my ceilings on and just use a clipping plane around what I want to see, I can again use vector to make it work.

I draw over the viewport with Layout line work.

For one off lines just do what Paul does. If you’re doing this more than a handful of times per plan view, then:

  1. Create a tag called “2D Above Dashed” and set its line style to Dashed.
  2. In the component for the beam, draw 2d lines on the outside corners of the beam, group them, then set them to that tag. Move the group to 40" aff or just below your floor plan section plane.
  3. Turn that tag on only in floor plan scenes.

In our Skalp extension we have a feature to show these elements automatically in dashed lines.
