Hi There - something new today - I went to open a file from the “File” menu. I click on “open” and nothing happens. I tried shutting down Sketchup and restarting, still nothing. Then I tried shutting down Sketchup, shutting down my computer and restarting, then opening Sketchup back up, still not able to activate the “open” command. I can go directly to any file that I’m trying to open, and double-click on it to get it to open, but strange that the “open” command button isn’t responding, no? Any thoughts?
What happens if you try clicking on the File menu again after clicking File>Open? Nothing? Or can you start modeling after clicking File>Open?
This sounds to me as if the Open window is opening off screen.
If the Open file dialog is off screen, you can recover it like any other Windows window that goes off screen:
Hold Alt, tap the spacebar. Release both keys.
Tap the M key, then any arrow key.
The window should then be attached to the cursor. Mouse around, and hopefully you see the window.
Left-click to drop the window somewhere on screen.
Hmmm… I am using a monitor that reduces my usable screen size. I’ve used this monitor 100s of times before without that issue. Just in case, I tried disconnecting the monitor and attempted to use the open command with my laptop’s screen, which showed quite a bit more area around my sketchup window, but still no open screen. Also tried “window” “bring all to front”.
colin, any similar command that you know of that might work on a Mac? I’m running a Apple M1 Max Tahoe 23.6.1
You could test if it is a problem with the file dialog being off screen. I haven’t of that happening on Mac. But try this:
Put a copy of a model on the Desktop. Name it aa.skp.
Choose File, Open, and type Command-shift-D. That should point the file dialog at the Desktop.
Tap ‘a’ twice, quickly. That should select aa.skp from the list of files.
Press Return. Did the file open?
Something else to check, in System Settings, Displays, make sure you’re not also connected to an iPad, or any other AirPlay screens.
no luck with either of those. I deleted the app and re-downloaded it, but no luck there either.
