I usually replace my laptop every 3–5 years, and I like the technology to be no more than about a year old at the time of purchase.
I’m in no rush, but I’ve already started looking around. ARM is starting to become trendy lately—take Apple, for instance, or some Windows machines (though that’s less of a great example). However, NVIDIA RTX Spark seems more promising—especially since [they claim](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/products/rtx-spark/) it delivers incredible performance in apps like SketchUp.

 ![Nvida_RTX_Spark_vs_Sketchup](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/sketchup/original/4X/f/a/5/fa54d74698eebf9c153a1e6a0e221fe65d98b45f.jpeg)

I wonder what they are basing this claim on. Did the SketchUp team actually test it? Or who? Do they already have native ARM code for Windows? Or is the emulation just that fast?

Judging by the [price of the upcoming RTX-equipped laptops](https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/search.html?query=Nvidia%20Spark), they should offer performance levels comparable to a today’s laptop featuring a high-end Intel or AMD processor and a decent dedicated Nvidia graphics card.

I assume Nvidia wouldn’t display the SketchUp logo on its website if there weren’t proof that it runs well on their hardware. Or would they?

I needed to update mine and found laptop sporting an Nvidia GTX 1660 ti with 8gb vram. Thought would be a huge jump from my Intel onboard 128mb version. Only to find out the GTX is the older technology and should have went with the newer RTX. Dan Rathburn suggested looking for the 5050 or newer version, as it supports Ray Tracing. It was my fault for not researching more throughly before my jump, but at least I bought second hand and way under market value. IO am reading that Nvidia is slowing commercial production on the 5090 in order to focus on more AI directed projects, which may in turn inflate the prices of the existing 5080 equipped devices. Dan was suggesting MSI laptops as having some of the better configurations. Love to hear what you are motivated by

Sorry if I squelched your post Dezmo. I asked google if the new gpu work run sketchup and it offered this: how will this run SketchUp

The **[Nvidia RTX Spark](https://www.google.com/search?ibp=oshop&prds=pvt:hg,pvo:29,imageDocid:12359994179042719268,gpcid:15155458552339938664,headlineOfferDocid:9882105540527949979,catalogid:450748448762813310,productDocid:5062136464349012611&q=product&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj7wPDEir-XAxXVKUQIHYeaFzgQxa4PegYIAAgKEAI)** will run [SketchUp](https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&rct=j&url=CAESdAHrOzAVGZasaspEVdSeDF10RxRfzxGtmELBbxh3Q39EVctWivK9AmyYsPKkUeb87YlCPzE9BFDznYClY6Ps-GuGj9JHR2OxbIZfFqG0tO6NK43UYeTwfHTUzanmjyN6zuuCcPD5pPBccW3OndbnlglJ8C85&uoh=2&ved=2ahUKEwj7wPDEir-XAxXVKUQIHYeaFzgQy_kOegYIAAgKEAM&opi=89978449&cd&psig=AOvVaw0vrgsRB_tIHF02sVdfoLUI&ust=1792258822370000) exceptionally well, delivering **desktop-class performance** in a highly portable laptop form factor. [[1](https://www.google.com/goto?url=CAESdAHrOzAVGZasaspEVdSeDF10RxRfzxGtmELBbxh3Q39EVctWivK9AmyYsPKkUeb87YlCPzE9BFDznYClY6Ps-GuGj9JHR2OxbIZfFqG0tO6NK43UYeTwfHTUzanmjyN6zuuCcPD5pPBccW3OndbnlglJ8C85)]

Nvidia has actively highlighted the platform’s optimization for the software, which heavily utilizes the hardware’s unified memory and graphics architecture. [[1](https://www.google.com/goto?url=CAESdAHrOzAVGZasaspEVdSeDF10RxRfzxGtmELBbxh3Q39EVctWivK9AmyYsPKkUeb87YlCPzE9BFDznYClY6Ps-GuGj9JHR2OxbIZfFqG0tO6NK43UYeTwfHTUzanmjyN6zuuCcPD5pPBccW3OndbnlglJ8C85)]

**Excellent Viewport Performance (DirectX 12)**

SketchUp utilizes a modern DirectX 12 graphics engine that scales up to 2.5x faster on RTX hardware. The Blackwell-based RTX GPU in the Spark handles complex architectural geometry, heavy textures, and real-time shadow calculations smoothly. Even with massive, multi-gigabyte master plans, the GPU’s high fill rate allows for fluid panning and zooming without viewport stutter. **Unified Memory Eliminates File Size Bottlenecks**

Traditionally, heavy SketchUp files populated with high-poly 3D warehouse assets easily saturate standard laptop VRAM, causing crashes or slowdowns. Because the RTX Spark uses up to **128 GB of unified LPDDR5X memory** , the GPU has direct, high-bandwidth access to the entire system RAM pools. You can load massive files and keep multiple high-resolution texturing programs open simultaneously without hitting a memory wall. **Blazing Fast GPU Rendering & Ray Tracing**

If you pair SketchUp with production renderers like **Chaos V-Ray, Enscape, or Lumion** , the Spark truly shines. **The Arm Architecture Proviso**

The [RTX Spark](https://www.google.com/search?ibp=oshop&prds=pvt:hg,pvo:29,imageDocid:12359994179042719268,gpcid:15155458552339938664,headlineOfferDocid:9882105540527949979,catalogid:450748448762813310,productDocid:5062136464349012611&q=product&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj7wPDEir-XAxXVKUQIHYeaFzgQxa4PegYIAAglEAE) is a **Windows-on-Arm Superchip**. While SketchUp works brilliantly on this hardware, you should double-check any highly specialized, legacy third-party SketchUp extensions or plugins you rely on daily to ensure they are fully compatible with Windows Arm emulation or native Arm execution. You can safely assume that I am capable of asking an AI myself;

If you have a proofs of the assumption you posted please direct me on that.
Where are the tests the assumption are based on?

@dezmo I’ve been wondering the same for some time, especially with how things hold up with fairly piggy live render engines eating up VRAM, particularly with the shared architecture. Hopefully this bump will get someone that has used this machine’s attention.

I did do some testing on an early version of the Spark laptop. They want to send me a production version to redo my tests on, so I haven’t given the figures I already have. When that arrives I will see about showing some figures.

Even the early machine performed well.
