Hi, I’m a 3D visualiser for an ID firm. I use sketchup 2025 + Enscape. My office has its own computer running i7 13th gen + RTX 3060 with 32gb RAM at 3600. It’s getting more laggy after 2 years.
I got myself a custom built pc and plan to use it as my workstation for my own projects. It was on offer and my budget is maxed out. This rig will have RTX 5070ti, 32gb DDR5 RAM 6000, 1tb SSD. I upgraded the ram and ssd (it was 16GB and 500gb ssd only). However, it is only equipped with an AMD Ryzen 5 7500f. Will it be enough ?
The other choice is an Ultra 5 which i avoided because if i want to upgrade in the future, I would need to upgrade the mobo as well (they discontinued the socket). Ultra 7 and Ryzen 7 upgrade is too expensive at this point for me because I want that good GPU. (A future CPU upgrade is cheaper than a future GPU upgrade).
I was working on a 7000 sqft restaurant at work and it lagged. I checked the task manager, it wasnt my CPU that was flattening at max power, it was showing spikes in the RAM and some spikes in GPU. So I’m wondering if my new pc will be better ? I have better RAM and GPU now and am using an SSD instead of a HDD.
yes. I mean, my PC is similar to your “old” one and I feel it’s still ok. so any upgrade from there is valid.
well, a 700m2 project is a large project, and if you’ve filled it with 3d models from the warehouse, there is a chance that it’s a bit bloated. be sure to purge your file, and through plugins like “cg impact report”, try to locate the complex (= lots of geometry) elements and if you can, replace them or simplify them.
it’s like carrying 3tons of stuff in your car. you might go for a more powerful car, bigger engine, sure. but you could also make sure you need all 3 tons of material in your boot. maybe you only need 1 ton.
edit : you can share your file if you want us to do an “audit” of it.
