Negative statistics?

Why do ‘Viewed’ Statistics go backwards?

Why should they? Example instead of mystery?

Why should they? - But they DO! One model was showing 66 Downloads, and a few days later it indicated 58! Is there an ‘Undownload’ function that I am not aware of?

This discussion does not lead to anything if you don’t give a link to an example model in 3D Warehouse to end the big mystery.

Statistics are often not realtime counts, but aggregated and derived from server statistics that are evaluated delayed in time. The methodologies haven’t been published and have been changed/corrected over time, which has also had impact on the historic statistics. So in short they previously were not reliable.

If however the model (that you didn’t link yet) continues this trend for the coming months, I would start to worry that people hand back the downloaded model which they never downloaded?

Are you talking about total downloads, daily or something else?

Thanks for the response. However, you appear to have answered the question, in that the View/Download Count is fundamentally inaccurate. Since the Statistics Download Function was removed, I check on a few models from time to time. I noticed that one had a reduced count, and did not use a Screen Capture - Something which appears to be unnecessary given the unreliable nature of the information.

Hi BOBMIRDIFF,

Thanks for posting. The aggregate stats are accurate and we take those measurements seriously. If you think there’s a bug we need an example so we can investigate it, and if the bug is verified, fix it.

When we introduced the ability to download directly from search results users no longer needed to go to the model page (i.e. a “view”) to download a model. So we’ve seen cases where downloads are greater than views for this reason. Is it possible that change is what you saw?

But an Aggregate of Precisely What?

“Statistics are often not realtime counts, but aggregated and derived from server statistics that are evaluated delayed in time. The methodologies haven’t been published and have been changed/corrected over time, which has also had impact on the historic statistics”

Why can’t each View or Download be Recorded and Posted as they happen? - Forgive me, but it sounds rather simple! Why is there the need to argue ‘Aggregation’ and that are derived from ‘Server Statistics!’ - Either 64 Downloads happened or they did not!

QED 3DWAREHOUSE Statistics are NOT reliable! - As was posted as a First Response! - Heaven only knows why!

I didn’t post that comment.

Each view and download is recorded as it happens but the mechanism for reporting it takes a few minutes to update. We could of course do real-time reporting of stats but we think there are more important things to devote our limited resources to.

The stats are reliable. If you can show us an example of where they are not, we’ll be sure to investigate and correct an issue, if one exists.
