Navis work to Sketchup

Im looking to import Navisworks file into Sketchup.

I saw an old post that mentioned importing an IFC file and another than mentioned Trimble connect. Are these still the best options or have there been changes since this was last discussed?

Thanks all.

I think I remember that Trimble connect supported Navisworks files, if you can see it in Trimble Connect export it to trimbim format and you can insert it in SketchUp

Thanks I will look into that

That is probably your only option. The .nwz format at least used to be proprietary to Autodesk, and when I last looked at Navisworks, it had no options to export the 3D model in any format.

I have my .nwd files loaded into Trimble connect and I can view them with that.

But how to do I get that into a Sketchup file? so I can make changes to the model?

@Anssi @rtches

you should et able to download / export them as a trimbim file once they’re up there.
sketchup reads trimbim, it’s the in-house bim format

I saved it as a Trimbim file but when I try to import it into a SketchUp file, it says the file is read only.

Or when I open it it opens with Trimble connect and not Sketchup.

It’s strange, it usually works for me. Try to open a new file in SketchUp, save it and try to import again the trimbim file.

Still not working.

This is the error message that pops up. Is it a setting that might have been applied to the original Navisworks file or one that might be able to toggled in Trimble connect?

Maybe @MikeWayzovski or @tiagoricotta can help you

Not seen those when importing .trb’s Are you converting them in the cloud or using the desktop application?

Converting .nwd’s seems to take a lot of memory resources, maybe something’s not finished?

There is a specific sync setting that alters the file properties to be set at ‘read only’, but that’s for usiage with the sync ap, only.

Maybe, you can share the .nwd?

I now have it working. not sure if I missed a step previously or it just needed time for the downloads etc but for future reference here is what I did.

I)added my Navisworks file .nwd to Trimble connect desktop app.

2)using the app I saved the Navis work file as a TrimBIM file (this askes for a desktop location)

3)going back to the Trimble connect app I added the newly created TrimBim file to Trimble connect.

4)opening up a new Sketchup project I then went: File - Trimble connect - import from Trimble connect and there was the TrimBIm file created earlier. Fin.

What doesn’t work is trying to import the TrimBIM .TRB file from desktop to a Sketchup project. IT needs to be loaded back onto Trimble connect and then needs to be imported via Trimble connect.
