My SU has been neglected!

My SU setup needs a bunch of help. It’s been a few months. I am returning to SU after working on other projects for awhile.

To start with, the asset folders are empty: Components, Materials, Templates, Styles. All empty! Where those files went I have no idea. What should I do? Can I repair an installation?

What do you mean with assets folder? Can you make a screenshot?

It wouldn’t hurt doing that, just remember tu run the installer as administrator.

It used to be that the assets were only in %AppData%\SketchUp\SketchUp XXXX\SketchUp\

For the last few versions they also can be in C:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp XXXX\SketchUp\

I’m not sure why the change was made, other than it would let different users of the same PC see the assets.

So, look in both places to see if you have assets.

No, they are not where they should be. If I go to the folders listed in Preferences for Components, Materials, Templates, Styles - those folders are empty.

Repair the installation and see what happens. Make sure you do it correctly. Right click on the downloaded installer and select Run as administrator. If theinstaller presents options select Repair. Make sure you have the lastest version of the installer.

SU is repaired as Admin. But the Materials, Components, etc folders in Preferences are still empty. Isnt there an assortment that comes automatically with every new install?

Exactly where are you looking for them?

In the folders that are specified in Preferences: C:\users\Joel\AppData\Roaming\sketchup/sketchup 2025/Sketchup/Materials etc

Those folders would contain materials, components, styles, and templates that YOU added so they wouldn’t be installed with the program. If those have been removed/deleted, they are likely gone. Are you sure they existed with SketchUp 2025? Maybe you have them in an earlier version of SketchUp, say in the same directory but SketchUp 2024?

Those folders don’t automatically get copied over when you install a new version of SketchUp. Part of my migration process when I install a new major release is to copy those folders from the previous version and paste them into the equivalent location for the new version.

Ah hah! I did not know that.
So, therefore, you are saying that All Is Well. Well, my gorsh. Who woulda thought??

If you haven’t added any materials, components, styles, etc. to SketchUp 2025 then yes, I guess it is.
