What version of SketchUp are you really using? Your profile says SketchUp for Schools 2021. SketchUp for Schools is a web based version and it would be current, not 2021. Are you actually using a cracked versionof SketchUp? What operating system? 2021 is not an operating system. What graphics card? 4GB is not a graphics card.
Where have you been saving the file while working on it?
Upload it to DropBox or We Transfer and share the link.
Please help. I was working on this file on my pc. The file was located on an external Samsung SSD drive T7. I saved the file, closed the pc and tried to open the file on my laptop. The .skp file gives me the warning “could not open file”. The .skb file gives me the warning “this does not appear to be a sketchup model”. Could anyone check if there is a way to open/fix the file?
Both files seem to be missing critical data.I was unable to recover anything from them.
Working on files savedto external drives and cloud locations seems to be a common cause for this sort of thing. You should be saving the file to a local, internal drive and only copying to the external drive if needed. Also since you have a current subscription you should take advantage of the unlimited Trimble Connect storage. In addition to saving the file internally, also save to Trimble Connect to create an additional backup copy.
Although it doesn’t show the typical issue with sections filled with zero, I too can’t open your skp file. Perhaps @colin can see what is wrong or pass it to a developer who can examine it.
Can anyone please help me, I was working on my school work last night on my laptop and the file is located on my laptop internal storage. I saved the file last night at 21.46 and then turned of my laptop. Now I tried to continue my work today but the .skp file gave me the “failed to open document”, the same goes to my .skb file
Free plan 2024, as in trial or as in I cracked it ?
cracks ain’t known for their stability.
Second, where do you store it ? do you have the one drive storage activated by default ? or did you store it on a cloud or somewhere requiring internet? asking because again, it’s a common source of error. and your file is fat. 209mb is fat for a SU file.
if you turned off your computer while it was trying to sync the file, it could explain it.
Anyway, the last 20% of your file is filled with zeroes. posting the skb could help, maybe the damage wasn’t as bad.
I cracked it since I couldn’t afford skp and my trial already expired. I stored the file in my laptop’s internal storage so it doesn’t require any internet connection. I’m just so confused since last night the file was okay and I made sure of it before finally turning off my laptop, but now suddenly out of 2 .skp file I worked on last night the only one that I cannot open is this one
Don’t expect to much help here, since you are using a cracked version. People here consider that theft.
Why aren’t you looking into a student version? They are very affordable and of course legal!
As @ateliernab already told you, the cracked version is likely to be the culprit of your broken model.
Hi @DaveR
For the first time today i experienced the “Failed to open document” . Also I don’t have the .skb file to get it converted to .skp again. I have .skp file only. are there any chances the file opens back.
Why is that? What operating system are you running? Based on the graphics card you list it must be some version of Windows so a .skb file should be generated unless you disabled the create backup feature.
Where have you been saving the file while working on it?
Unfortunately large chunks of data have been replaced by zeroes and there’s nothing I can do to recover it.
Hello! I’ve been having the same problem since this morning and nothing works and I am desperate since I have a client deadline next week. Would you be kind to help me also? Thank you very much
Hello @DaveR@colin can you please help me with failed to open error. It was a big interior project and my deadline is almost near.
When the power cut happened the whole file got corrupted. This is the second time this is happening. Please help me its very urgent and thanks in advance for your time.
Unfortunately, about 70% of the file contains only zeros. There is not much you can do.
Do you have an skb file?
By the way, the file was created in first release of SU2023. This leads me to conclude that it is not from an official source.
Are you using cr acked Sketchup?
So, then why you mentioned in your forum profile that you are using SketchUp Version: 2024 Desktop?
Are you using cr_acked SketchUp 2023? (Usually, this fact itself can cause file corruption.)
No, as I said, the file is not recoverable, but even if I could, I wouldn’t help.
Why do you think you can steal the software and come here to whine on the official forum and get help?
That’s like going to the owner of a stolen car to complain that it’s not working properly.
It showing “failed to open document”, I’ve tried to open it by other device and sketchup 2023, it doesn work. I dont have skb file to recover it. Can please help me take a look, my due date next week
