Moving multiple objects to a single plane - is there a way to do this?

After 3d modeling something I often want to create a ground plan from that same 3D model. I’ve tried using fredoscale to scale all objects to zero but this leaves me with a lot of unnecessary lines like the framing for objects. Fredo scale also seems to not allow me to pull dimensions easily after scaling to that zero plane (perhaps this is a problem with 2026 that will be fixed once they update that extension?).

What I recently did to get around this was I created simple 2D squares or polygons on top of the 3D objects, then I moved all those objects to one plane for my groundplan. Is there some way of moving multiple objects at the same time, but rather than have them all move relative to each other have them all end up being coplaner?

Also any advice on how to more quickly create a groundplan would be appreciated. My probem with using a top view of a 3D model is that even in layout you can’t accurately pull measurements from the objects as the points are on a different z axis.

One way of creating a common ground plane is to start by drawing a large rectangle on the ground plane (at Z=0). Then, you can group this rectangle and even lock it to avoid moving it inadvertently.

Of course, it is quite easy to create all objects on the ground plane by being careful to snap endpoints properly while creating them.

Just curious. Is there a reason you couldn’t simply set up a scene with the camera set to Parallel Projection and the standard Top view? In an image export or a LayOut viewport it’ll look like everything is on the same plane and you don’t have to move anything.

Eneroth Flatten to Plane

I guess this one is the reason. :backhand_index_pointing_down:

I don’t use Layout very often, so maybe it’s just user error and there’s a way to avoid this, but I’ve found myself multiple times in the very same situation described here.

You can use a free extension named Curic Align (search in Extension Warehouse)
Step 1. Select all objects you want to align.
Step 2. Activate Curic Align, hold Shift and click to the face of the “ground” plane. Then all selected objects will be moved to the ground plane at a same time.
