I am going insane trying to work out how to move a material from one folder to another in the Materials palette. So I create a new material by right-clicking the three dots at the top right, then select New Material. I choose the file and it brings the material in fine and I can use it on faces in my model. But how do I then move this new material to a different list/collection? This should be so obvious but despite multiple searches (Google AI let me down on this one) I cannot work this out. I’m on a Mac using Sketchup Pro 2025.
You can either sample one material from any other list, then switch to your new list and drag the bigger swatch in the lower left into your new list. Or, you can go around stashing a copy of many materials into the smaller swatches, then drag each of those into your new list.
This recording shows the reverse of that, I first stash several materials into the small swatches, drag all of those into a new list, then at the end I use the bigger swatch to get the last material in.
Something else to know, that is not at all obvious, to get rid of a small swatch entry you drag it straight to the trash in your Dock:
