It was very smart twinning Orbit and Pan into commands that could be switched between by merely holding down the shift key and the wheel to zoom in/out (forget the wheel click! It doesn’t work at all, even on a Microsoft HID-Compliant mouse). However, it would be even better if there were a way one could use the Alt and Alt/Control keys, or another keyboard key to call into play the Select tool (which seems to come into play just as much) and other tools one uses frequently.

  1. Is there a direct mouse/key path to the Select tool?
  2. Can you map keyboard key combinations to different SketchUp tools?

The Spacebar is the default shortcut for the Select tool.

You could set different keyboard shortcuts under Preferences>Shortcuts. Be aware you can’t change operating system hard coded shortcuts like Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+A, etc.
