Modelling Screw Threads

@DaveR

Hi Dave

I have been watching your screw thread tutorial which is really useful so thanks for making it.

Modelling Screw Threads in SketchUp

At 17:45 you say something like “I am going to use that to trim that” but you don’t mention what plugin you are using.

Can you let me know please.

Thank you.

Hi Kevin,

Back when I made that video I used an old extension called Trim and Keep. I believe it’s no longer available. Instead I would use Trim from either Eneroth Solid Tools or Bool Tools 2 because they respect components. If you don’t care about that part you can use Trim from the native Solid Tools.

FWIW, the mantra for Trim with the native Solid Tools as well as the old Trim and Keep is, “Use this to trim that.” The montra for Trim with Eneroth Solid Tools and Bool Tools 2 is, “Trim this with that.”

I hope that helps.

Perfect Dave - thank you :+1:

I’ve downloaded Eneroth Solid Tools and “trim This with That” makes perfect sense.

I also just found this PDF on the website of a company I’ve buying nuts & bolts from for years which seems to have all the information I need to create metric threads.

You’re quite welcome.

That’s a handy PDF to keep around. I use engineersedge.com for that kind of information. They have specs for all sorts of different screw threads and other things.
