Model profile contents size

I’m trying to find the size of each object in the file to manage my file size. And when the object is duplicated the size of each of the same objects don’t follow equally, which doesn’t make sense
Thanks for any help

You can use CG Impact Report from the Extension Warehouse to identify how much of an impact different objects in the model have on the file size.

thanks, I’ll check out the CG extension. However, the objects are exactly the same. When using the “M” and “C” on the keyboard to duplicate the objects the file size should change consistently. Can I enclose the file with dropbox to provide a better understanding? thanks

If the objects you are copying are components, that shouldn’t be surprising. Multiple instances of a component won’t be a whole lot larger than a single instance. Here’s an example.

1 cylinder component. File size is 22.9 Kb.

100 instances of the cylinder component. File size is 90.6 Kb or just under 4 times as large as the single instance.

And with 10 thousand instances of the cylinder. FIle size is 436 Kb which is only 19 times larger than the single component.

And to follow that up, the drain on resources isn’t related to the file size in this case, so a small file size can still bog down a computer.

Thanks, now I understand ! The original object which was about 49 MB, and the duplicates only increased by small amounts which didn’t make sense to me. But I did find the cause for the escalated file size in the original object, which I had many 2D images imported and containing 3 to 4 MBs each instead of KBs–and that would add up quickly. I already know how to reduce it in Adobe photoshop with reducing the pixels. The objects were also created in groups.
