Migrate paint bucket

I have Sketchup Pro 2025 and just updated to 2026. My paint bucket in 2026 does not have all the materials I added in 2025. Is there a way to migrate the paint bucket from 25 to 26? Thanks in adavance. A. Reed

Copy the Materials folder from its location in 2025 and paste it into the equivalent location in 2026.

Look in Settings>Files to see and access the location where your materials are saved in SU2025.

Please update your forum profile and also include the OS version number.

I completely agree. what happened to all of those great textures!

Which great textures are you referring to?

the old ones ? the old ones that were 100px wide and from 2000 ? those great textures ??

they’re here.

wouldn’t call them great though.

hello. can you be more specific? I found the materials folder and the “shipped materials”, but having trouble copying it and moving it to the 2026 version.

thanks

there was a lot more options in 2024 than 25 and 26 in the paint bucket.

The OP asked about finding the materials they added to SketchUp 2025. Did you add materials in SketchUp 2025?

yes.
the new materials are a bit heavier. that’s not hard, the old ones were tiny stamps of low quality, the new ones are 1024x1024px, many are PBR (interact with the environment). so instead of a few kb you get a couple mb.

so instead of placing them all by default in your install, that would make the install a lot bigger, we’re talking almost 600 materials (resulting in more than 1gb extra), they chose to install fewer locally and instead add a button to go grab the rest. it’s in the material panel. it looks like a small 3dwarehouse logo.

you can also go to the 3d warehouse, search for something and pick materials. it’ll give you the full lot of all materials uploaded by users since the PBR upgrade. right now that’s 3000+

thank you.

so, back to you OP.

as Dave said, on mac, for now anyway (fingers crossed…) you have to manually migrate them.

on finder, click on the go menu and at the bottom go to

here, paste this

~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2025/SketchUp

there you’ll find a Material folder containing the materials you added in 2025 (unless off course you added them somewhere else… but we’ll figure that later)

simply place them in the material folder of sketchup 2026 you’ll find here :

~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2026/SketchUp

same with templates, components… that you might have made and saved in the default location in 2025.

oh, and if you want to find the old materials from the warehouse, they’re in a filter. they were not uploaded by users, but simply extracted from the files. lots of trash there, bad names, weird sizes…
personally, I won’t touch these. I’ll use the new ones because a person has manually uploaded them, no auto extraction as far as I know.
or I’ll use architexture.
