Medeek Wall

It seems like lately I get a lot of people asking where to download the full mdkBIM package of extensions. The mdkBIM bundle is nothing more than the following five extensions (hence the name suite or bundle): Wall, Truss, Foundation, Floor and Project.

I also have the follow three additional extensions: Electrical, HVAC and Engineering

Technically they are not part of the mdkBIM suite however in certain cases I do bundle them with the other five extensions.

One can freely download all the plugins (trial) from their respective webpages, here are the direct download links if it is too much bother looking them up:

Version 4.3.6 - 02.22.2026

  • Added the following window manufacturer, fields (series) and label: Sierra-Pacific.

I’ve recently had the request to add an annotation to the wall panels that displays the cladding area (net and/or total). See example below:

Obviously I would add this to a separate dimension layer/tag so one could easily toggle it on and off. One can already get this information from the estimating module but this would simply provide a quick and easy way to pull the sqft (area) of a wall panel. By default this extra annotation would be turned off but if desired one could enable it in the global settings (Sheathing tab).

It would not be too much trouble to add something like this in but I just want to roll this in front of a larger audience and see if it is even something that would be useful or beneficial to the majority of the user base.

I would not use this in the model. It is available in Layout with a label and there you can control the font and location or formatting.

How do you achieve this in Layout?

I don’t see the use case for this, especially not on an individual wall level.

The Label grabs the available data of the object its attached to. So placing a label on the siding makes the square footage of the clading.

This shows a window label that is a scrap book element that has a auto text label embedded. When the leader of this label is attached to the window it garbs available data from the group or component.

Same thing with a surface. These square footages are from the label attached to the cladding and it yields the same number as if I edited into the wall assembly until I had the surface of the cladding selected and in Sketchup it show the footage in entity info. This is why Ive asked that the custom label of medeek doors and windows be available to layout. I can edit the instance with the number but then any regen of that wall wipes out the numbers. The power of this is on a complicated house you number the doors and windows in the medeek assembly and then when going from plan view to elevations the labels are automatic. These images are 100% Medeek. If I label in layout a Medeek post base I get the actual part number in the model. Having more data visible to layout makes a lot possible. Your material lists are great. I assume it wouldnt take much to get a door and window schedule from the data in the model.

This shows the label attached to the cladding.

When you edit into the label you get this data box showing available info for the item. In this case is showing info in the wall assembly, but probably specific to the cladding. I posted this here rather than a direct email in the event other find this useful.

Given that this functionality already exists in Layout, I don’t think it is necessary to add this into the plugin code. Thank-you for a in-depth discussion on this, super helpful.

The plugin doesnt give the information so it is visible to layout. As I have said the custom label would be a huge productivity boost if it was visible to Layout. Thats one example of many. For those that dont use it , I think they would if it was possible and they were educated as to how this can automate creation of documents. I currently spend more time in layout than I do modeling in Sketchup. The paycheck is in the finished document set.
