Yet another update following up on a customer request. Probably not the highest priority on my list but a welcome addition for those that need this feature.
The kick plate(s) can be positioned on the exterior, interior or both sides of the door. The height and thickness is configurable. For now the margin at the edge is hard coded in at 0.75 inches (width is auto calculated based on door size). The material (ie. brass, nickel etc…) is configurable the same way the door hardware is.
You can now add round steel in-wall columns into your Medeek walls. These aren’t actually lally columns since that specific product is typically installed with an adjustable screw assembly. However for most design purposes I think showing the round column like the image above will suffice.
One of my favorite lines from Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House:
“…on the second floor, the lintels between the Lallys, you want they should be rabbeted?”
Seriously, seeing a pipe column bear either end on a plate looks suspect to me - worrying about Fc-perp not being up to the load a pipe column can take.
You are correct, one would never set up a pipe in a wall like this, it would just embed itself into the wood plate(s). I was demonstrating the in-wall column with the default settings.
If one adjusts the height parameter and the vertical offset parameter you then end up with a more realistic configuration (notice the king studs also on each side of the column).
With the opening and closing of bypass doors my youngest son noted that it would be nice if one could control which side actually slid open. After some thought and recalling a certain state logic lesson (control of an elevator) in my mechatronics class years ago (1999) I then came up with this:
You basically just keep clicking on the door until it arrives at the configuration you want. It will now alternate which side it opens.
The option to set the opening outlines as regular edges or dashed (construction lines) was requested by a user. This option only changes the outline created at the top of the wall, it does not change or remove the door swing symbol or the garage door extent outline (dashed construction line).
I’m trying to not add more parameters and options but users always contact me with something new they need. Everyone has their own workflow or the way they want things to appear in Layout. Flexibility and a smorgasbord of options is critical but at the same time it does balloon the number of parameters and increases complexity which tends to scare away some potential users.
I always tell new users to not be frightened of all the options, if you don’t know what it does then just leave it as default, that is generally your safe bet.
I think that finally completes all of the door panel options for all the other non standard door types (rectangular doors) within the Wall plugin.
Most of this updating is a bit tedious since there really is no new code to write, just shuffling around existing code and recycling certain blocks here and there. I think after this update I will jump over to the Floor plugin for a bit and take care of some pressing matters before diving back into the Engineering plugin and then the Plumbing plugin.
Keep sending in those feature requests, they are very much appreciated and valued. Not all feature requests make sense so I do hand pick the ideas that I want to implement, but I do my best to seriously consider each and every request.
Not specifically related to the Wall plugin but the Order History in the Account Manager on the Medeek website will now show all plugin (extension) orders. Previously the Order History button only showed planset orders. Something I should have fixed on the website years ago, but too busy coding the plugins.
Nathaniel, have you considered adding a deck railing module somewhere that would create railings with similar options to exterior decks? That is one of the few items that I cannot do with Medeek extensions.
