Any chance we could get a toggle option in the color menu to change the previews from the cubes to a flat image? Similar to how that option works in the 3D warehouse?
Thx

I like that idea⦠or have the ability to increase the size of the cubes⦠I kind of like the cubes, but they are too small (old eyes, I suppose). Larger cubes or flat swatches would help me.
Please do. This cannot wait until Sketchup 2026⦠try to distinquish veneer swatches - itās impossible to see what it is.
Go to preferences and turn off the āauto convert to PBRā
Build a collection / folder of your veneers, reference them into your materials pallet.
Or create a template that has your most commonly used veneers in it.
It doesnāt help if you want to toggle on the PBR stuffā¦
Iāve been using my old materials with flat swatches since 2025 came out. Unusable for me otherwise.
Hi @bmike ā I am doing that but itās actually a bit of a shame. Some of the PBR effects are kinda nice for some VERY BASIC improvements to Layout presentations. So to get rid of an improvement in the software just to change the representation of an asset in the UserInterface feels like a rather drastic solution.
This is one of these āyes - SKETCHUP needs to fix thisā type of things, that we cannot find a workaround for otherwise without a really big compromise.
We render with Enscape and Vray depending on the clients preferences (and money they would like to spend).
I donāt disagree. I hate the cubes. Never use the PBR stuff (I render in VRay when needed). I was just trying to offer a band aid that I use.
I cannot seem to find this setting in preferencesā¦maybe Iām just blind.
Itās in the Graphics section.
You have it turned off already. Itās those bottom two options and sliders.
Ah ok. So this means that old materials will not be converted, but the new PBR cube swatches in the materials menu will still appear as cubes
It would be very helpful to be able to see what the materials are before applying them to faces. Or at least to be able to incease their size in the menu.
I was very excited about PBR materials when it was presented. But I havenāt used them yet. At all.
Whilst all improvement in Layout are making my everyday work much more enjoyable.
Quite a lot of us, still have to produce 2ditās so much easier to do it if the tools behave similarly. (SU and LO). So I would encourage the team to further improve this.
