Materials and Switch Updates to Trimble Creator

Hi all,
We recently updated Trimble Creator and the graph, focusing on improving material workflows and improving stability.

Material Changes

  • Streamlined Material Creation and Application

    • We have deprecated the old “material” and “set color” nodes in favor of the new “create material” and “apply material” nodes. These updates are designed to make materials more reusable within the graph and more persistent throughout the Live Component experience.
  • Important Changes to Note

    • Use the “create material” node to generate a material. You can then apply it to geometry using the “apply material” node.

    • The material definitions have been expanded and updated. While “base color,” “base texture,” “opacity,” “roughness,” and “metallic” remain the same, “bump” has been updated to “normal,” and a new “ambient occlusion” option has been added.

    • The “set color” node has been removed. Please use the new “create material” and “apply material” nodes instead.

Stability Improvements

  • Numerous issues with the “switch” node have been resolved, including a long-standing bug that could render the graph unresponsive. These fixes are part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the stability and reliability of Trimble Creator. With these fixes, you can now use the “switch” node confidently, knowing that it will not cause any unexpected disruptions to your workflow.

We hope these improvements enhance your experience with Trimble Creator. As always, we appreciate your feedback and support.
