I’m a long time SU user (now using 2024 PRO) , and just noticed that the color assignment names for my tags (oddly called by SU “materials” when they are are not), adds the prefix “Layer _” plus the tag name for the color name .
Has this always been this way?
So for example, if I make a tag named “EXISTING WALL”, SU assigns a random color, and if one edits the color, an “EDIT MATERIAL” window opens, and the name of that material/color is “Layer_EXISTING WALL”.
I can edit it to be any name I want, independent of the tag name.
Is it normal SU behavior to add the “Layer_” prefix, , or is that something a plug-in has added? I’ve tried disabling all the likely plugins (like vray), but the behavior remains. Not a big deal, I don’t even know where those names are stored or visible (or why they are called “materials)”, but I’d prefer it not to be called a “layer”.
Can someone tell me what they see when they check a tags color name? Thanks!
What do you mean by ‘Edit Material’? You shouldn’t be able to or need to ‘edit’ the color. You can change the color if you don’t like the random color assigned to new tags.
This is the normal behavior. I couldn’t say whether an extension is driving the Layer_ prefix or not.
Good to know. Thanks Dave. And +1 to what @DaveR said…That name must be carryover from previous when they were called layers. Never needed to edit the name myself - cant even see that option on Mac as well. Even when you go to Generate Report, material names is not an option for reference or sorting.
