James, amazing! It looks like your “Tag all nested groups/components” does exactly what I was asking for. But…
My issue now is: It only seems to work if/when you turn it on, and THEN Enter Tag Name, and THEN press Create Tag. But what if I already HAVE a tag that I want to move everything to? I have to Enter Tag Name again, and then press Create Tag again? That’s a lot of extra clicking!
Also, “Tag all nested groups/components” doesn’t seem to work via the Right-click “Assign Tag” menu. That’s the primary way that I need to be able to very quickly move things to new Tags. I work with a LOT of Tags, and I work very quickly, so clicking 3 times to move nested items to a new Tag is a lot of extra clicking (for me).
Is there any way to make “Tag all nested groups/components” a persistent toggle that is either ON or OFF, no matter how you move an item to a new Tag (even via the Right-click “Assign Tag” menu)?
I totally get if my requests are making this difficult. I’m just letting you know what I think the most efficient workflow is.
Thanks again for all your work on this! It’s a great extension.
It could be less. But it is less than clicking into nested groups and components to apply (native behavior).
That I didn’t try to make happen.
I could probably change the behavior so that when an object is selected, if it has a tag, that tag is displayed in the input field. And also, pressing the shortcut focuses the cursor in the tag input field and displays the tag -if it has a tag. That’s a tad quicker than having to mouse click in the input field. This would mean, for correctly tagged groups and components, selecting it in the model space, pressing a shortcut, and then pressing Enter would tag the nested groups and components. This would be similar to the Make Component / Make Group extensions I have in the EW.
The Tag all nested Gs and Cs setting could be made to work with the Quick Tag.
The checkbox settings could be persistent.
Tag all nested groups/components doesn’t work with the right click menu or Quick Tags. That might be possible. So maybe. Probably.
I get it. I was just being lazy
I might bundle this stuff into a different extension, Tag & Folder Tools… might take a bit but it’s on my list now…
