Main axes disappear when editing any component

Suddenly, with every model, even a fresh new model, every component, every time you edit, even if you close and re-edit, the main axes disappear and only the component’s axes appear. Drawing from the main axes is not possible when editing any component so you can’t for example draw concentric circles from the origin. Even if you draw some tape measure lines at the main axes, those lines stop being a magnetic point when you edit any component in any project. Sketchup can barely be used because of this.

See DropBox screen captures 1, 2, 3, 4. These very clearly illustrate the problem and why SketchUp can’t be used any more. Remember this problem happens in every project and every component. Axes setting has always been turned on. Flushed cookies and temp files.

Please, I know about resetting the axes in a component. That only works at the moment of editing and you have to do it again when you close that component edit it again. If you have say 50 components, you have to do this for every one, every time you edit, every component, every project… Even having a single component is extremely difficult when the main axis disappears when editing. It is not possible to use Sketchup this way.

Yes. That’s normal behavior in SketchUp. You can add a guide point or crossing guidelines outside of the component in line with the global axes and use them.

I’m not seeing that in Sketc hUp. As you can see in my GIF the guides can be used for inferencing even when they are outside of the edit context.

If you want to move the axes for a component you only need to do so once if you do it correctly. Change the components axes without opening it for editing. The axes will then remain where you set them.

Good info. Since this writing (2 days ago 5-11-2025 to Support), I can now draw against guides that are outside the item I’m editing, like you illustrate.

After 17 solid years of using Sketchup I suppose memory can fade. Looks like my whole problem was lack of inference to guides outside the component being edited, and that problem no longer exists. The disappearing main axes HAVE always disappeared this way (including Sketchup 2017). In my frustration, unable to draw anything to main axis guides, I obviously started grabbing at anything and everything to be able to work again.
