Can someone please explain to me how I get a materials from the “in Model” folder, into a custom library that I have so it can be used in another model?
Obivoulsy I can just open my model, grab the face with the materials and paste it into my new model but this is not a long term solution.
I have tried the method where you select the material from the “in model” folder, then open the custom folder from the drop down menu, and then drag the materials from beside the dropper into the new file. This sometimes works…sometimes doesn’t, sometimes crashes sketchup and sometimes copies a totally different material all together.
The Mac Colors palette has a swatch area at the bottom of the palette. You can select or eyedropper any material, and while it is the larger thumbnail in the lower left, you can drag it into the small swatch squares. At that point the material is usable in any model file, in any version of SketchUp.
If you wanted to make your own custom set of materials, you can use the List/New feature to make the new set:
That works, but I want it to be be visible in the larger menu window not just the small thumbnail list next to the dropper. I can do it, but it just crashes half the time and doesnt work the other half…wondered if there was a better way to go about it. Sure would be nice to be able to right click on any materials and save as to another materials list.
