Line Cutting in Layout 2025

I have attached a screenshot of what I’m trying to figure out in Layout. In Layout 2024 and earlier you could remove this line between the two filled shapes by using the Cut tool. Now when I select the cut tool it immediately erases the fill from the entire shape and nothing I do seems to re-glue it back together. I tried using the glue tool but I never have had any success in making it work anyways. Any thoughts?

I’m on my phone so not so efficient to be more informative.

The functionality of the split and join tools have changed – check out the release notes.

Ok. I’ll see if I can find them.

The glue and split tools should work as they’ve always done, a new feature to those tools was added in version 2025, you can just select all the lines and click on the glue/split tool and automatically all the edges will be glued/split instead of having to do that edge by edge.

It depends on your specific workflow regarding the tools.

I would tend to have the object selected before I activated the split tool to split at one or more points but the behaviour now is that if the object is pre-selected, when you activate the split tool the object is split at all the nodes simultaneously.

It took me a while to retrain my brain.

This would explain why the OP’s pattern infill was disappearing when the split tool was activated.

If you select the tool first, the split and join tools function as they did in 2024. If you select the shape or LO geometry first, the split tool acts like explode and the join tool acts like weld.

For your example, you selected the shape first, then hit split. Now your shape has exploded into line segments. The fill has disappeared because they are just disconnected lines. If you wanted the fill to come back, you would have to select all the line segments and then hit the join tool. This will weld the lines back into a connected shape.

If I were doing the operation in your example, I would select the split tool first (with all shapes unselected), then cut out the undesired line and delete it. If part of the fill disappeared, I would then select the two shapes, and hit the join tool.

That’s it. Very helpful. Thanks.
