Layouts just straight up not working

SU and LO 2026 on a MacBook Air I’ve had for 3 weeks. fresh install. no plugins.

working on a new design. been modeling all day. finished the design and made a few scenes and then sent it to layout. all of a sudden layouts just straight up won’t work. I did this exact same thing all week last week and had no problems. I made no changes.

  1. save model

  2. send to Layout

  3. select model on page in Layout

  4. try to make a change, like change the scene or line weight or change it to vector, etc.

  5. model does nothing and I get the yellow caution triangle.

  6. hit refresh model button.

  7. does nothing. warning icon still there.

Closed the file and deleted it. re-saved and closed my sketchup file. restarted my computer. opened a file that worked last week. Same exact problem. checked for updates, both sketchup and layout say they’re up to date.

Is there a Reset button displayed in the SketchUp Model panel?

I tried it with the auto both off and on. It made no difference. There is no layout file because nothing will work so I didn’t save it. It’s doing it with every SketchUp model, including models that I had no problems with last week.

Well make one that doesn’t “work” and save it to share.

So the behavior changed recently?

Yes. Like I said everything worked fine last week. Files that worked last week don’t work now. I get the yellow caution icon on every model in layouts, including in files that worked last time I opened them. I changed nothing. I dont save to the cloud. I don’t use a server.

i spent all day making a model in sketchup. no issues. built things like i normally do. I saved it, sent it to layouts. i changed the model on the first page of the layout file to vector like i always do. i copied and pasted the model to a second page like i always do. i got a yellow caution icon on the second page, and none of the model options were available. every model i tried to work with in layouts after that had the error, including models ive never had a problem with.

That is indeed very odd. I’ve never seen this.

well today it’s fine, so I have no idea. although some behavior changed. last week I could copy and paste a model from one page to another and have it still be a model. this week if I copy and paste a model, it pastes as an image.

edit: correction. it’s still being weird. sketchup files greyed out, have to close the layout file and reopen it to get it to work.

ok now it’s back to how it worked last week. I changed nothing. buggiest software ever.

Hey @colincollins,

I’m sorry that this has been happening to you. Could I ask you to please try this behavior as a temporary workaround while we address this problem: instead of opening a file with the welcome window or using the “Send to LayOut” option in SketchUp, can you please use the File > Open option that should be available after you close the welcome window that appears after LayOut launches?

Again, this would only be a temporary workaround for now while we work to address this, and again I’m sorry that this is happening at all.
