We have recently run into an issue at our office that we’ve never encountered before. We have a Sketchup model of a house with scenes created for Layout, but when we import the model into Layout, some of the surfaces appear fragmented with portions of the texture turning to a bright white color. We have been using Sketchup and Layout in our office for over 10 years and have never seen this before. I’ve posted images below show show how the model looks in Layout.
Also, I’ll leave a link to the actual files below:
So far I’ve tried:
-Deleting and redrawing the surfaces
-Exploding the model (this actually fixed one of the Layout persptectives)
-Purging and “Fix Problems”
-Using different scenes
-Moving the model to a different location
-Adjusted shading
-Creating new scenes with slightly different orientation
-Save as both Sketchup and Layout files
-Installing Sketchup 2025
-Copying model into new blank file (this appears to work but haven’t brought the files to the same level of quality as the original)
Hoping someone out there has a more efficient way to fix this or at least knows what the problem is. Please reach out if you do. Thanks!
When I first saw your image I suspected the model is positioned a long way from the origin. The screenshot shows typical graphics issues caused by that. Indeed it is. Nearly 3-1/2 miles from the origin.
Thanks for pointing this out and it was the issue. I have no idea why the model was located so far away from the axis. I’m guessing we imported the site data from CAD which was on a coordinate system which typically places it far away from 0,0 in AutoCAD.
Before you get into adding anything in SketchUp, make sure all edges and faces are untagged. Only groups and components should be given tags. And remove any unneeded content from the import.
