I’m opening a new thread as the previous one was automatically closed before my last reply.
So to summarize, we had listed a whole series of issues with the new Layout 2026 back in November, and I was asking whether they had been resolved. Someone (Dave) was asking why I didn’t just try downloading it to test it again, since the new version wouldn’t overwrite the old one.
So here is my reply: Because the last time I installed it, all the files I opened in the layout view with the new version experienced every single bug I listed here at the time. I had to spend hours fixing everything. All the fonts smaller than 8 points had disappeared, everything had shifted out of place. A nightmare. On top of that, my entire workflow is affected. As a freelancer, I can’t afford to waste time on this kind of nonsense…
Download the latest version of 26.
Install it.
Open a few of your files.
If they are a mess, go back to using the version you are using (each major release installs in its own location).
I run my own business. I approach each update with caution, waiting to see if people document issues on the forums, and then when I have a good time in my projects I upgrade and test.
I have not seen all these issues using latest version of 26 on macOs.
I also have 24, 25 and 26 installed on my machines in case things do get weird or go sideways.
In November I downloaded the 2026 version and that’s when it messed up all my files. So I’m very hesitant to reinstall it — I went back to 2025. The bugs I described were acknowledged by the SketchUp contributors who replied to the thread where I detailed the various issues.
If the intention is to “mansplain” how to manage my business and my time, that’s not what I came here for when I posted on this forum. My question was straightforward: have the bugs been fixed? If so, I’ll gladly download the latest version…
I’m not mansplaining, I am in the same boat. I don’t have time for bullshit.
I also told you I don’t see those issues in 26.
There is zero possibility that it messed up ‘all your files’ unless you opened and saved them.
You can have multiple versions installed. If you open a file in a new version and ■■■■ is fucked up, close it without saving, test another, then another if needed. If they have all gone sideways keep working with the version that works.
Download and install the latest version of 26. It installs in its own location. Open a couple files. See for yourself if it meets your needs. Like I said: I don’t see these issues and I’m in SKP and LO everyday for schematic design, rendering and construction documents.
Also consider what @Anssi asked - are you in draft mode, or maybe you have the new graphics engine on?
