Layout crashing several times a day

I am on a new Apple M4 Max with 64 Gigs. Layout locks up with the spinning wheel. I shut it down and the recovery file will quickly show the updated SU viewport. I moved from Windows to this M4 recently. Anyone having trouble with the M4? Anyone know if they are working to improve stability? Do I need to go back to Windows?

Put your email on it or send me a crash # and I’ll look it up. I’ve been begging for an M4 for a while…

ps - go back to Windows? Oh heavens, no.

Found it.

I had some serious problems a few months back with my new Mac M4.
It went away over time. Which is not to say it just disappears on its own.

If you have something with a lot of line work. Like a all-thread modeled, or something similar… the view port can cause a serious bog on the CPU.
Now that seems obvious but, even if its behind a wall or far off in the distance… Layout seems to want to draw it… ALL OF IT. Even if its 500’ away.
I could be wrong… but when you explode the view, all the lines… even the ones behind the walls or what have you, are there. So that makes me think that its there all the time.

This kind of thing shows up when you bring in a point cloud. SketchUp bogs down and hates it. Where QGIS or CloudCompare only render what they need. They do it it fast, and I can do this on the same computer with SketchUp LayOut and other apps running.

Also, both SU and LO do a lot better when lines are grouped.

So… when this started to go sideways for me. After I started getting crashes. I had to do two things.

Turn off everything that was not in the view.
And… dive into the hidden library and start dumping all the historic files. Then kill the references and reload them after I fixed the views. Otherwise the Layout file would remember something.

Of course, use raster viewports. Until you need vector.
Turn Auto off.
Cloud drives are not your friend.
And I found that the experimental graphics setting can do some really odd things.
