Layout 26.2 dwg export issues

What has happened to layout dwg export after update to layout 26.2?

Earlier when I exported drawing to model space it was exported as it is in layout at paper size and scale.

Now if I try to export to dwg it separates all scaled drawings and texts which are grouped in the model space and also changes all scaled drawings in 1:1 scale. It kind of works like it would make like exporting to paper space.

Also, I currently do not have any clipped groups in my drawing.

One thing I noticed that seems new in the export is that it places all groups on their own separate layers, named LayerGroup_X.

Thanks for reporting thi issue, I will take a look with the Layout crew. Can you share a file with me?

Hi makep, we are now placing scaled groups into the Model Space at 1:1 and providing a Viewport in paper space at your assigned scale. The labels in your case will most likely be placed in the paper space.
You should be able to see your total complete drawing if you navigate to the Paper Space in the cad file.

Yes, I can see and it seems to do this for all grouped objects actually.

However, in my exports I cannot find any viewports anywhere, unless I am missing something. Also, I would not want the Model Space export to work this way.

If I want to export to Paper Space, that option works well and viewports are made correctly. Unfortunately, in some cases, a Paper Space DWG is not good when the file needs to be shared with others who use the DWG as a reference in their own design work.

For example, here is a comparison between the old export behavior and the new export behavior in a hollow-core slab design workflow.

The old export worked as expected: it exported all entities to Model Space at the current paper size. This made it simple for anyone receiving the drawing to scale it up to 1:1 by multiplying by the drawing scale, and then continue their own work as needed. They could then send the result back to me or to others. This workflow worked well even with people who do not have strong CAD skills.

With the new export result, if I send the DWG to someone, it will be much more confusing to use. It also requires too much manual work to make the drawing look the way it is supposed to. In practice, I would need to open and fix the DWG in AutoCAD (and buy license) before sending it to others, and that is not a realistic workflow.

This is how it does the Model Space export now

I would add that all of these new groups are also being placed into model space and a viewport is created for them when previously they were left in paper space with no viewports.

It does this for scaled drawing as well. Previously anything that wasn’t a sketchup model would stay in paper space. Please fix this.

@trent Creating new viewports for all scaled drawing is not ideal. For my workflow it would mean exploding all of them and losing the scaling in order to leave them in paper space. Maybe an option to have them go to model space would be helpful.

Also, trying to export to 2025 but I’m only seeing 2013-2022 and 1,2,3. This isn’t super helpful.

@trent @tiagoricotta Any update on this? I can share a small file if you still need an example to work with.

We are working to implement the legacy behavior when the export all to Model Space option is selected.
