Layout 2025 start up freezes when it gets to 'Setup Shortcuts...'

Consistently having issues with Layout 2025 pro not booting up. It gets to the point in the start up box where it says ‘Setup Shortcuts…’ and it just stops.

Sometimes it will open normally, if not a bit on the slow side. Sometime it’ll open if it just sits there for 30 min or so. Lots of times, like right now, it just won’t open at all.
I’ve reinstalled, repaired the install, restarted a dozen times, checked for system updates…
I don’t think its a hardware issue as my comp is a brand new Surface Laptop Studio 2, set to us the high performance NVIDIA graphics w/ Sketchup programs. I should have plenty of juice to run it.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Did you install SketchUp and LayOut correctly? That requires right clicking on the downloaded installer and choosing Run as administrator.

check your graphics engine settings - in SU - use the classic engine and see if that solves it. i’ve experienced a lot of issues with the modern engine.

Yep, even did it again for good measure.

And yes, I also switched to the classic engine setting early in my troubleshooting adventure today.

Are SketchUp and LayOut installed on the C: drive?

yep, they are installed on the C: drive

Perhaps @Barry has some insight.

If I trust that it really is setting up shortcuts, I’d make a copy / rename my shortcuts and restart. I’m away from my Win box right now but it’s in something like ~/AppData/Local/SketchUp/SketchUp 2026/LayOut/layout.private.json, and it has all your shortcuts in it.

I don’t think that’s the cause, but it’s worth a try.

Somehow I missed this message Barry, but thanks for the reply.

Just for the record, and cause it might help someone else, I was able to resolve the issues by clearing out all the Sketchup files from the location below:

C:\Program Files\SketchUp
C:\ProgramData\SketchUp
C:\Users<user name>\AppData\Local\SketchUp
C:\Users<user name>\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp

This was on the instruction of Sketchup Prosupport and I was able to perform a clean install and things got running again. The most problematic file is still something of a problem, but it doesn’t seem to be a Layout issue. Probably more of a Gdrive issue.
