Layout 16 impossibly slow

I’m using an

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015 OS X El Capitan
3.3 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon R9 M290 2048 MB

Can anyone advise me.
I’m working on quite a large sketchup model (it’s 84mb). It works fine in sketchup but when I insert it into layout it is painfully slow to work with. The layout file is 34mb

I’ve tried removing sketchup library components to reduce the file size but it doesnt seem to have had much effect.

Is it the file size that is the problem?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Have you already set your Rendering resolution Display Resolution to Low?

BTW, did you purged unused item? not only delete component but also txtures, sytles in the model.
[Window]-[Model Info]-[Statistics]-[Purge Unused]

Thanks for the suggestion - I think the problem was that I had changed the models from rasters to vectors but I’ll certainly check for purged items as well!
