I need to place a part number on a component so that it can be etched on the part during laser cutting. The 3d text may not work properly for etching. Is there a way to put a 2d text with single lines, on a component? Leader text does not work. The non-extruded 3d text would work if it didn’t have double lines.
What font are you using? If all you want are the edges of the text to be read as paths for the laser, you should be able to use non-extruded 3D Text and just delete the faces.
By “double lines” do you just mean the outlines of the characters? If so, it might make more sense to add the text in a CAD application instead of in SketchUp
Thanks DaveR,;
I tried several fonts to see if there was one that would display only a single line. I’ve reached out to the fabricator to see if he can work with the lines without faces as you suggested. Also, he may just add the part number in his cad app. We’ll make it work, one way or another. Was just asking in case there was a simple solution.
It’s a paid extension, but you could try Dave Penney’s Flat Text. I think it includes some single line fonts.
Thanks,
I purchased. I think it will work for my project.
