I’m currently stuck trying to subtract one solid from another. Specifically, I want to subtract a “head” shape from a “card” body. My goal is to create a matching cavity so I can re-insert the part later for a multi-material 3D print (using two different filaments).
I have used the Solid Inspector extension to verify that both the card and the head are recognized as solids, but the subtraction tool still won’t work.
I suspect the issue might stem from how I traced the head shape from an image, but I can’t figure out exactly what’s blocking it. If anyone could help me understand what’s going wrong, I’d greatly appreciate it!
This is for a school project I’m working on with my students. Thanks in advance for your help! You can find my SKP here (2017)
The issue is with your “cutter” which is not solid… there is a small section that connects together in such a way that the vertical edge connects to 4 faces, which prevents it from being a solid… filling in this super small hole fixes the issue.
Voici une proposition de traduction en anglais, adaptée au ton des forums d’entraide technique (comme SketchUcation ou le forum officiel de SketchUp) :
"Thank you very much for your help. However, I’m still stuck. Even after filling the gap, Solid Inspector 2 (I’m using SketchUp Pro 2017) tells me everything is fine, but I still can’t use the Outer Shell or Subtract tools.
Could someone please try to fix it directly in my file? I’ve spent a lot of time on this, and it’s actually for a volunteer project—I’m helping students create a card for Senegalese veterans. I need to print it tomorrow. If anyone knows how to extrude the map and position the head component so that I end up with two distinct parts, I would really appreciate the help.
If it’s too complex or time-consuming, please let me know and I’ll drop it.
