Is my Computer still up to spec

,

Every thing appears to be working fine until I click into A text field. thats when I get a 15-20 second pinwheel, and my CPU spikes from like 1%- 100%+. I cant work like that. Ive tried erasing SU and Redownloading it, dissableing all my extentions. The bug is not model specific It occurs in every file now even new and empty docs. Ive tried pretty much evey suggestion I could get from the chat bot. I have a high end Mac book pro that appears to live up to all the system requirements. It is the last year they used intel sylicon though.

-2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9

-AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

-16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

I assume you are working in LayOut when this happens?

Are you using the classic or new graphics engine?

No. Layout seems to be working fine. This only happens in my modeling space As for the graphics engin, I am not sure. Ido remember hearing something about in settings.I am sure that my CPU usage is spiking 100%.

I just checked and I am using the classic graphics engin

I Just downloaded Sketchup 2025. The issue dose not exist there. I’d not like to assume 2026 just dose not work on my current computer. I would appreciate any info concerning this situation. Thank you.:slightly_smiling_face:

Looking at the gpu info on your profile I assume it’s a 2019 MacBook Pro. You should be able to use the new graphics engine according to the sketchup’s hardware requirements website.

Apple said on their latest wwdc that support for Intel Macs will end with the release of the next macOS, they didn’t say that literally but saying that Roseta 2 won’t be able anymore means that it’s not going to be possible to run software written for X86 architecture. Software companies soon will stop developing software for Intel Macs, like it happened when they transitioned from power pc to Intel, I don’t know for how long Trimble will still develop SketchUp for Intel Macs, probably a couple years, then you won’t be able to use newer versions of SketchUp or any other software.

I’m sorry for all the people who bought a Mac between 2019 and the first months of 2020. As soon as Apple announced the transition to Apple silicon I knew that Intel Macs were doomed to be obsolete in few years. Actually I was going to buy the 16” MacBook Pro with the AMD Radeon 5600 gpu with 8gb HBM2 memory but thanks to the pandemic I hold my money, then 2020 WWDC happened and I was so thankful I didn’t spent almost 4K.

Good to Know. Thanks Paco!
