Is it possible to create a complex shape from a freehand line?

For instance, I drew this line with the freehand tool and in this gif, I’m spinning it around with the rotate tool.

Is there a way to do this in such a way that it creates a surface?

Or to use the follow me tool to create a complex plane?

Yes. Draw freehand on a plane then follow me tool around a circle with that shape.
