Interior Visualisation Template

Hey!

Too often I have seen SketchUp users struggle to make good looking visualisations, without using any rendering plugins, becase they do not understand how SketchUp stylistic and rendering effects work together.

I created a template for Interor Visualisation that has 4 Scenes:

  • Model - basic SketchUp view for modeling;
  • Flat - great for sections, elevations and to analyze model material quality
  • Day - realistic Style, Ambient Occlusion, light fog, Environment with a daylit interior - gives good horizontally directional light and neutral coloring
  • Night - features a dark fog and Environment with a stronger light coming from the top and bigger contrast.

I have been testing the template on many different scenes and would like to hear any suggestions - how to improve the template further.

In most scenes, only thing I needed to change is the Environment direction and reflection exposure. Fog needs to be adjusted depending on scene scale.

It would be great if SketchUp would add Environments that are more suited for interior visualisation, because the exterior ones are not that great for interiors.

Cool idea.

You can add your own environment images if you want.

Yes, I added a few of my own, but less advanced users struggle to find good ones.
One mistake I see is people using up to 16k HDRI images, when a simple 2K one can do just fine for lighting.

I think some extra ones with a studio environment might also be good for product visualisations, as those require very high contrast HDRI.
