How do I import a 3d file that has radius solids so the radius are not faceted? I need a true curve.
True curves do not exist in SketchUp. Everything is made from finite straight edges and planar polygon faces.
In that case is there control over how many facets follow the radius?
That would be up to the author of the particular importer you use. The API provides a way to set the number of sides for a circle or arc, but the default there is not affected by the default you set via the GUI. It would have to be a setting of the importer.
Make sure that you are using the right terminology,
A circle, in SketchUp is made of a number of edges. An edge is a 1 dimension line.
A facet is a 2 dimensional surface delimited by 3 or more edges.
When importing 3D curved objects, most of the time all curved surfaces are imported triangulated.
Even flat faces with 4 or more edges may be imported triangulated.
Check if there is an Option button in the Import Window that allows you to Merge Coplanar Faces.
This may reduce the total number of edges in your model and improve its look.
What version of SketchUp are you working in? Your forum profile shows “Free Plan”, Pro, and iPad. There is no free plan of SketchUp Pro. Are you using SketchUp for iPad or SketchUp on a desktop/laptop?
