I'm looking for tutorials on USING Sketchup Go

I’m looking for Sketchup Go tutorials. I’ve done a search for Youtube tutorials for Sketchup Go but it came up with comparing Pro and Studio for people who want to know the difference but as I already have a subscription for Go, that’s not a lot of help.

My questions are really basic, like (for instance) ‘how do I name a file’. Sometimes I’ll see an option to do that when I’m using Sketchup Go, but most of the time, an automatic ‘UNTITLED’ title locks itself in.

Can anybody help with a suggestion of where I can go for basic with questions like that please?

Thanks

so, as far as I can think of it, you name a file the first time you save it.

(hang on a second, I’m moving my cereals aside to grab the mouse)

when you make a new file, it’s called “untiteld”. click on its untitled name and it opens the “save as” window.
saving your file will give it a name and a location. It’s not that different from any other software when you think of it.

on learn.sketchup.com you’ll find the official elearning, including this one

I’ve not done it, I think people said it wasn’t complete, then most of the team making these elearning left the company. But now trimble is releasing new ones, so maybe a better one is coming ?

this get a bit confusing, Go is the name of the subscription that contains web + ipad.
look for tutorials on sketchup web. that’s the interface you’re using.

but yeah, not a lot there, it’s mostly about the differences, meaning that watching the SU pro videos is still a good thing (in the link above, check the square one playlist)

well… here really

You can either start new threads, or just follow up on this one with any question you have

Thank you.
While I’m here . . . yours is the only comment with a ‘reply’ arrow (that I can see). I can only thank you, ateliernab, for the moment, but thank you to everyone who has replied.

I get that same window opens up as you show in your video. When I click on the SAVE AS it is no real help. See attachments.
I have been able to name some files, but it seems a bit hit and miss and only when I’m creating a new file. The SAVE AS hasn’t worked for me at all.

It’s similar to the basic way of working in Windows (or Apple)… click on ‘Folder’ to open.

yeah, in fact, when you save on the web version, you save on Trimble connect servers.

by default you’re using the Aussie server (where everything is upside down and giant spiders live, or so I’ve been told)
then, inside the server, you can drop your files and make folders.

just remember where your files are. In the australian server.

sometimes, people don’t pay attention and change server… and loose stuff

It’s also worth mentioning that SketchUp Go is a subscription scheme that allows you to use additional function of browser-based SketchUp, called SketchUp for Web.

I see others haven’t mentioned it yet, so here is the “traditional user guide” for SketchUp for Web: https://help.sketchup.com/en/sketchup-web/getting-started-sketchup-web.

You can also entitled to use and SketchUp for iPad with this subscription.

What lovely, helpful people you are on this forum!
Thank you. I’m going to try everything. I’ve already had some success from ideas shared here.
I used SketchUp for months, sometime around the turn of this century and it seems to me it was more user-friendly then than it is now. Back then, I contacted the developers, letting them know when I found a glitch. They not only took me seriously, but they also worked on it and then got back to me. I was really impressed, so when I had something I wanted to use if for again, I came back.

I’d be delighted if you have any tips and tricks that you think a newbie might like.

Cheers

Krolly
PS Searching for SketchUp Web instead of SketchUp Go, the name on the ‘package’, is a big help. Thanks
