I see this phenomenon every now and again, and I figure it’s about time I poked around to solve this issue, which I surmise has a name.
Entity info confirms it’s a solid group (2 iterations here), but a kind of distortion becomes visible when viewed from certain angles. Hidden geometry shows nothing amiss, and yet these discolorations persist, popping up seemingly at random in various constructions.
Maybe this’ll get me under way to finally getting a handle on the “mesh” concept.

It usually just means the is a softened edge at some point around the face.
Unticking Smooth Normals removes it in your model.
