Overall I would like a speedy walkthrough on how to use this. I have not used and CAD in over 10yrs and i just want to layout a simple project.
Your forum profile is confusing. Which version of SketchUp are you actually using? SketchUp for Web (Free only) is not 2026 Desktop. In order to give you the “speedy walkthrough” you ask for we need to know, the version you are using is important.
What kind of a project are you hoping to model?
I am finding some help on youtube but I cant put anything into the measurements box
Probably because you are clicking on the Measurements window. Don’t do that. If the window is available to take input, just type.
I am only using the web client, it didn’t let me leave one blank. i am trying to layout a cockpit for a racing sim rig out of wood.
So for the version just put Web. Edit your profile and remove the reference to the desktop version.

I need to take a 13 acre image out of google earth that has a 2 acre clearing with 100’ trees surrounding it, determine where the shadows lie in the field at different times of day and different days of the year - Is that even possible? - I’m Bruce BTW - Glad I’m hear 
Yes although not from Google Earth. Google’s terms of use don’t permit it. You can download terrain and imagery into SketchUp using the Add Location feature. Add objects to cast shadows and then create a series of scenes with the date and time set as needed.
BTW, please correct your forum profile. When that information is correct it helps us help you. There is no Classic license for SketchUp 2026 so you must have a subscription or an EDU license. And “DELL” doesnt identify the graphics card.
