Hello. I am currently working on a project where I want a curved wall, slightly tilted and with different elevation from one side to the other. I do not use any payed extensions, so I wonder if it is possible to make it with free extensions.

I am using Sketchup 2017.

Holy smokes. Thank you. I will test that out!

That worked great. Is it also possible to extrude the faces using free tools?

It depends on what exactly you mean by ‘extrude faces’ and what you want to achieve. You could duplicate the existing shape at the desired distance and then join them.

I want to “fill” the relevant area. I am able to do that by manually placing all lines, but that is rather time consuming. Is there a better way to “fill” the gap between them?

🙂 You just learned about the Extrude Tools, you could also use it to join the two parts. Or you can use Sandbox \> From Contours.

May I ask; I am currently experiencing an issue where textures are obscured and twisted, even with thrupaint extension. I am wondering if there is some logic with either solutions which twists the faces in a way. Do you know if I have to consider something if I need to texture the model?

Share the .skp file so we can see what you’ve modeled.

What exactly do you need from the model? I presume this is a hobby thing for you since you’re using SketchUp Make.

I am making a helipad for Microsoft flight simulator 2020/2024. The helipad has a tilted and curved brick wall which I would like to model.

Make sure you have the same number of segments on both sides to create propper geometry (full quads).

Looks good. Do you have any tips on how to ensure the same number of segments? I am kind of new to advanced Sketchup

Success! Using the UV Mapping tool within the QuadFaceTools extension did the trick. Thanks for your input! 🙂

There’s a plugin called Fredo Spline, it has a lot of features and one of them is change the number of segments of any curve.

Wait, if I understand correctly, you made the same sized quads through blender, and then back into Sketchup?

Do you know how to do that within Sketchup?

I did a proper flow of quads and I already showed you how to do it.
Once you have the same number of segments for the paths and those segments are equal, you should get the quad surface and be able to apply a texture.

Regarding the texture, you can try Fredo ThruPaint, and for even more advanced control, you can use Wrap-R, for unwrapping and uvmapping in SketchUp.

Ah! When making the curves, I typed the number of curves I wanted (e.g. 19s), and did that for all parts.

What I need to be careful about though, is that the wall is basically three parts. Two flanking sections, and one middle sections. The two flanking sections are having the increasing elevation profile, while the middle part is flat and level. What I’ve previously done is that I have welded the whole curve, and was unable to aquire the similar segments due to them being differently curved and elevated - making weird geometry. I see now that making the wall in parts give more equal sized quads.
