How To Work At Very Short Lengths?

Whichever way you want it, simply start making the push/pull in the direction you want, then let go of the mouse and type what you want and hit enter.

Or use the Scale tool. Pick the handle to scale in the direction you pushpulled, then type in the size you want it to finish at with the units e. g. 12".

I agree; always use a similar technique to ensure all the points of the face are coplanar:

  1. Begin by creating a approximate face in the exact plane that is desired for the final 2D face. (I use 6-sixed polygons rather than rectangles, because polygons are easy to draw out and can be deleted more easily than the four edges of a rectangle.)

  2. Draw your desired lines, arcs, guides, etc. on that face. With the Select tool active, click on the “interior” portion (the final area) of the face occasionally to check if SketchUp is seeing your true 2D shape as a closed outline.

  3. Delete the outermost rim of the polygon. Your final 2D shape should remain.
