How to draw stamped louvers

Hello all!

I am having a hard time drawing stamped vents using native tools. Is this possible? Has anyone attempted this using native tools?

Respectfully,

Robert

PushPull and Scale didn’t work for you in this case?

What is the ultimate goal with the 3D model… rendering, 3D printing, something else?

I’m inclined to agree with what @mihai.s alluded to: unless the actual structure of this vent is important to the model, use a texture image instead. In most situations, the complex shape of the vent will require a lot more geometry than is justified by its function in the model.

If i was modelling this i would draw the flat plate main structure, then draw the little louvre sections. Draw one only and copy and paste where you want the rest. If your drawing it for fabrication then start deleting the sections you want removing. Everyone modelling different in SU as its fairly fluid, some people modelling in a more indirect way. Break it down into smaller sections and then bring it together.

Thank you for the suggestions. I was trying to challenge myself by accurately drawing this item. I did stumble upon the video posted by mihai.s after I posted this. It was very helpful! However, it did not address adding thickness.

Fredo JPP extension.

Draw the plate, push pull to thickness. Then model the louvre sections side on, only the section that has been pressed out, use the offset tool to get the side profile and thickness you want. Push pull this, then snap this one louvre section to the plate. Copy this one section down to give all the louvers you want. The end sections to make the circle might be abit fiddly but that is how i would do it. There’s probably a few on here who are wizards that could show a much easier faster method.

Quite pleased with this, using Make 2017. I used only native tools;

follow me to create one element of the louvres, copy the requisite number of times, scaled length and width placed on the image and grouped them. I created the base plate using circle and then standard modelling methods and “intersected faces” of the group of louvres and plate, then removed the necessary faces before push pull to the base plate. And it came out solid!
