How to create an asymmetrical cap?

The edge gaps you see cant be repaired automatically as they are not two ends near each other that require a bridge. One of the arcing lines does not meet at the bottom, so easier to just draw that connecting line to meet from the nearest junction and delete the other.

Did you just zoom in and found it?

I didn’t have any of those issues when I was doing it.

Since then I have found the gaps and connect the arcs on the top but missed this one.

I mean Skin Contour works but Eneroth does not.

if you run edge tools, you will see the 2 spots marked by circles, just zoom into those and fix.

What value did you enter for distance in the bottom bar?

I don’t understand why there’s such a long discussion about this. It shouldn’t be that difficult.

I made a component of just the geometry at the top of the leg and copied it.

Scaled that copy up by a factor of 1000. (Dave Method) Since it’s symmetrical, I erased one half of the wireframe and welded the edges on the remaining half.

Then I ran Curviloft - Skin Contours reversing faces as needed.

Copied and flipped the resulting groups to make the other half.

Explode the groups and soften the edges.

Exit component edit and delete the giant copy. Zoom Extents to return to the leg and explode the original component for the cap. Done.

No screwing around with gaps or other problem geometry.

Maybe the reason it’s working for you is that you split it in two and are skinning that half that doesn’t have the edge gaps?

It’s just efficient modeling. That’s all.

Thanks so much Steve for all your helpful observations. Learnt a lot.

By unsoftening the leg base and selecting the frame, the skin contours does works as is: no need to split in two, make components and duplicate or upscale, just a bit of face reorientation and softening.

(Note: this was only possible by having first fixed the gaps on the far side, otherwise the surfaces on the far side would not fill in.
