How to bevel cut a mitered group?

Hello. Using the free desktop version of SketchUp, I seek to apply a 5-degree bevel to a 5-degree miter. However, regardless of whether I apply the bevel or miter first, I’m unable to add the second cut. Something about the change to the group’s geometry creates undesired results.

In either case, I start with a group, double-click into it, use the line tool to trace the cut, and then Push/Pull to discard the cut portion. I then repeat these steps for the second cut. I get the first cut no problem, but as mentioned, cannot get the right results for the second cut.

I have also tried applying the miter cut first using the above method, and then Follow Me to add the bevel. In this case, I double-click into the group, draw the outline of the bevel against the mitered edge, and then apply Follow Me to the small section I’ve created. This gets very close to what I want to achieve, but leaves remnants that I’m unsure of how to manage.

Is there a good approach to what I want to accomplish? Any guidance is :folded_hands:

There isn’t a free desktop version. Are you using trial of SketchUp 2026? Knowing the exact version you are using will help us know what tools you have available.

Share the actual .skp file so we can see what you’ve got to work with.

Are you trying to put the 5° bevel on adjacent sides of the box? If that’s it, omit the first bevel. Draw in the edge representing the bevel on one end. Select the two consecutive edges, get Follow Me, and click on the little triangle.

I’ve exaggerated the angle to make what happens easier to see.

I added the bevel per your input and that worked. TY

That is a neat solution. I had to look at it a few times to see how it worked.
