Indeed lucky.
This is what happens.
New Graphics Engine F’s this up.
Turn on the classic and it works as expected:
Paging @Colin to tag the appropriate SU Team member to see if this is a bug, feature, or whatever.
Not to be presumptuous but I’m pretty sure you meant to hyphenate giant-ass.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Holy smokes—You’re right!
The one thing I didn’t try. Okay, well, I guess that settles it.
Good detective work!
Are you using the same sky / style as OP? Curious what happens if you copy yours into OP model.
That is what I was wondering - is it with that particular model and using the new engine? Seems like something is sideways in their file somewhere.
I agree that it does seem like an issue with that particular model. I tested in more models than I’ve shown, including some by other users, and haven’t duplicated the issue.
It’s purely anecdotal, but when I switched graphic engines, the horizon snapped right back to the axis on the affected file.
Also, I noticed that when I copied the geometry to a blank file (from a stock template), the axis and horizon were initially coincident but separated at some point as I was working. I wasn’t paying attention to what caused this because I was caught up in modeling.
Might be worth pointing out that I’m running a somewhat dated ThinkPad P50 with a Quadro M2000M 4GB, for which Lenovo hasn’t issued a validated driver in years.
There are updated NVIDIA drivers that technically support my my GPU but which destabilize my system so I’ve had to revert back to the validated driver from Lenovo.
Late to this party, but I think this is a bug in the new graphics engine when the camera direction is exactly along one of the horizontal axes. It’s not clear to me why it only affects certain models (maybe the model size, as has been mentioned?), but I can see it in front, back, left, and right views in the original model. The tiniest touch of vertical orbit and the background goes all sky or all ground.
