Hon Hon Hon - Call me Nab, Atelier was my father

Perhaps Mrs Cappo is reading this all…

Mrs Cappo can’t even operate the TV remote so I think I’m safe from her ever finding this

I cannot do that either. I hate TV remotes. I pretend that I am not interested in watching TV.

I’ve narrowed it down to an A1 or A1 Mini.
Or possibly a Flashforge 5M
Or maybe a Centauri Carbon.

Or scrap them all and go back a project I started a few years ago - a full-size arcade machine powered by a Raspberry Pi.

When the boy leaves I am going full nerd

I mentioned the penclip earlier,

it clips on the cover + a couple of pages, it contains all I need on a daily basis, pencil, pen, couple of felt pens.
at first I tried to make it thin and open, slightly smaller than the pens. but it caused deformation on the long run, and thin = fragile.

then I tried various thicknesses, with and without an opening. did maybe 15-20 print test of just rings to see how much printing and cooling would affect the final size (because plastic expands and shrinks, the dimension you type in is almost never the exact end dimension. and when you’re talking 1/10th of a mm for a good fit, it matters)

in the end, I printed one juuuuust a bit too tight, and filed / sanded each tube so they would grab the pens but still allow me to get them without too much force.

I’m keeping the others, they are a bit too tight, but if I break or loose the current one, I can simply re-adapt them.

by default, my PC is on my desk, with its charging cable. whenever I use it somewhere else (couch, bed, rowing machine, balcony…) I usually leave the charge cable. and no matter where I try to put it, it usually ends up on the floor.

so I took some basic dimensions, made a 1:1 (sorta) sketch

from there, a quick model with whatevec PLA was loaded. a pair of tiny screws, and I have a place for the cable to rest when It’s not pluged in my laptop.

(next to it, I thought about having the mac mini under the desk but in the end, nah. so I printed a fake mac mini and I used it as a drawer. you can take the top off.

well, my advice, A1, ditch the mini. it’s 25x25cm versus 18x18cm printplate. doesn’t looks like much, but it’s almost 50% more print space. and that’s valuable. old me should have made the math.
right now, because of the event, you can get an A1 for the cost of an A1mini.
whatever you get, the larger print plate you get, the more flexible your use can be.

edit : might end up upgrading to a P1P or P1S, no AMS for now. depends on the discount they make… and the state of my bank account

Well now you’ve pointed out the P1P or P1S…
That discount is about 40%!

jeez that thing is loud.

I’m already checking tips and tricks to reduce vibration and fan noise.
I’m gonna need felt, a duck, some concrete and rubber blocks.

I might also end up putting it in quarantine in the guestroom for long prints.

Can’t wait to see how the duck fits into this.

I have never met a duck who was supportive in any way shape or form.

I have my X1C sitting on a sturdy wood desk with a piece of 3/4" plywood that has felt glued to the underside. The purpose of the plywood and felt is to allow the printer to be turned around in case I need to access the rear of it.

LOL Growing up we had a Mallard duck (all long story) that was so mean there wasn’t a dog or cat in a 4-mile radius that would venture onto our property. Even our dog that was known to take on raccoons, skunks and bucks, gave him a wide berth. But as a chick (the duck, named Toller) imprinted on my stepfather and would follow him everywhere, very funny because he was an avid duck hunter.

I on the other hand have a new flock of ducks every season that love to sun themselves on my back deck. Each new generation gets taught that my boat is a safe space to hang out.

It’s just that they also love seeing you working on stained glass

We have jackdaws nesting in one of our chimneys each year and they don’t trust me at all. Their (the parent’s) experience with me gets transferred to the young ones so they all hate me.

Years ago I chased them away when I caught them stealing insulation material when I was working near the roof top of our house.

I still love them.

Do they love your big sphinx of quartz?

Huh? So I asked one of my “friends” (below), he says: bet you!

I was gearing up to order one this week. I think I need to look at one working on YouTube to judge how loud it’s going to be.

I was thinking I’d put it in our planned art studio (Cappo son is moving out..again) but Mrs Cappo will not be happy with too much noise if she’s trying to be creative.

::Update::
Ordered one yesterday evening :slightly_smiling_face:
